This course focuses on employment and workplace practices as they relate to the principles of communication.  Topics include effective social media and technology communication, interviewing skills, resume writing, listening skills; interpersonal communication in the workplace, organizational culture and diversity; communicating in groups, teams and meetings; and developing effective presentations. This course is fast-paced and students will use a variety of technological tools to create projects. 


Students may earn three (3) college credits for Interpersonal Communication (COM 101) through Eastern Connecticut State University if a “C” or better is earned in the course. Students must register for this opportunity by the deadline and are responsible for all fees. Upon successful completion of the course, students can request a transcript, and credits may be transferable to other institutions. *Grade 10 students requesting to take this course are required to have a school counselor recommendation and a minimum 3.5 overall GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale in order to receive ECSU college credit for this course. 

Computer Science I

This course is an introductory course for students of all backgrounds in computer science and programming. In this course, you will learn problem-solving strategies, software design, and the foundations of computer science. This course has an emphasis on coding using Python- a coding language used by large organizations such as Google and NASA. A variety of coding skills will be emphasized such as: functions, randomizing numbers, if statements, and graphics among others. Prior experience with coding is not required. Career exploration will also be encouraged throughout the course by introducing a variety of career opportunities in the area of computer science. All online modules for the course will be available for students to work at home and in class.

Computer Science II

In this course, students will continue to sharpen their programming skills in Python. Development of programs using looping structures, text processing, functions and arrays are practiced. A variety of topics such as cryptography, cybersecurity, simulations and modeling are discussed to show the importance of how computer science applies to a wide range of careers. Students will also learn the basics of HTML coding for website development. Ultimately, the most important concept is how computer science skills will set students apart from others in the job market. All online modules for the course will be available for students to work at home and in class.

CSA 105- Introduction to Software Applications

This hands-on PC-based introductory course is designed for students to develop practical software application skills necessary for personal productivity in the classroom and in the workforce. There will be a strong emphasis on incorporating technology skills according to industry standards. All online modules for the course will be available for students to work at home and in class. Students will have the option to receive a Microsoft Applications Certificate upon successful completion of the course exam. Also, students may have the option to apply for three (3) semester hours of college credit through Capital Community College. 

IT Fundamentals - Hybrid IT Help Desk

An overview of today’s technologies, their importance and how they converge will be discussed. We will also discuss important topics in a variety of disciplines that include the fundamentals of the World Wide Web, networking, information literacy, digital media, software and program development, and issues of personal responsibility as they relate to technology. The class will be running a RHAM Tech Help Desk to assist with troubleshooting and solving RHAM community technology issues two days per week. All online modules for the course will be available for students to work on at home and in class. Course instruction and interaction will take place online and in-class. In a hybrid format, class will meet 2-3 times per week. During the off days students will be running and working an IT Help Desk for the RHAM School Community. Students will receive an IT Fundamentals Certificate upon successful completion of the course exam.

AP Computer Science Principles is equivalent to a first-semester college computing course. Students will develop computational thinking skills vital for success across all disciplines. They will use tools to analyze and study data and work with large data sets to analyze, visualize, and draw conclusions from trends. The course uses a project based format focusing on student creativity. Students are encouraged to apply creative processes when developing computational solutions and while using computer software and other technology to explore questions that interest them. Students will build socially useful mobile apps using the visual programming language MIT App Inventor for Android. In this way, student learning will be associated closely with their interests and grounded in their schools, their homes, and their communities. Students who are enrolled this course will be expected to take the AP exam. Completion of this course will earn an elective credit.
